We're back with another edition of "CLEs Totals." Last week we cashed our CFB total with the over in the Oklahoma St vs. TCU game. Let's make it two for two with this week's total play.
This week we are going to experience a little bit of MACtion as we head down to Athens, Ohio where the Ohio Bobcats host the defending MAC Champions, the NIU Huskies. Ohio comes into this game with a 4-3 record including 2-1 in MAC conference play. They are coming off an impressive 19-point victory at Western Michigan last Saturday afternoon. They are 5-2 to the over this year, including a perfect 3-0 to the over at home. Ohio home games are averaging 93 points including an average of 51.7 points from the Bobcats themselves. Ohio’s defense is one of the worst in the country, ranking 126th in yards given up per play, 130th in 1st downs given up and 117th in points given up.
NIU comes into this one with a 2-5 record including 1-2 in MAC conference play. They are coming off a 29-point win against Eastern Michigan. NIU is 6-1 to the over this season, 3-1 to the over on the road, while also 3-0 to the over when they are favored (currently 3-point favorites). NIU games are averaging 67 points per game this year, while that number has increased to 71.7 points per game in their three MAC games. Like Ohio, NIU has one the worst defenses in the nation ranking 128th in redzone defense efficiency, 115th on 3rd down conversions, 115th against the pass, and finally 103rd in yards given up per play.
Both defenses are horrible and I don’t see anything changing in this matchup. They both give up a ton of chunk plays and have trouble getting off of the field with any consistency. I expect a lot of points to be scored in Athens on Saturday afternoon.
