Offensive Minds with a lot of Time to Prepare
Did you know that Andy Reid did not retain Nick Sirianni on the Kansas City coaching staff upon accepting the Chiefs job in 2013? Kansas City was the first NFL team to employ the now-Eagles head coach who had stops with the Chargers and Colts coaching staffs before earning his first head coaching gig two years ago. What’s the relevance of that in this game? Coaches are just as competitive as players and I think Sirianni might be hungry to show Reid a few things he’s learned along the way in the last decade since being let go in Kansas City by big red. Reid on the other hand has been known for his teams thriving off bye weeks and has two weeks to cook up some offensive wizardry of his own. Not to mention, both offensive coordinators in this game, Eric Bieniemy and Shane Steichen have been touted as future head coaches. Both Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes have been battling injuries recently and will have two weeks to heal up. The Kansas City receiving core figures to be healthier as well. The Eagles have scored 69 points in two playoff games and Hurts hasn’t even been asked to do much. Imagine where their offense could go if Hurts has a big game in his Super Bowl debut. Additionally, AJ Brown has just 50 receiving yards in two playoff games for Philly. Doesn’t that sound like a receiver ready to break out against a young Kansas City secondary? There’s so many reasons to like this game over the posted total of 50 at most shops so I would grab that now before the total hits a key number of 51.
